Hoja Alouddin Attor – Sufi Scholar and Spiritual Leader

Hoja Alouddin Attor (Alauddin Muhammad bin Muhammad al‑Bukhari al‑Attar) was a renowned Islamic religious leader and Sufi master of the Hajagan‑Naqshbandi tariqa. He is remembered as the seventeenth link in the Golden Chain of succession of Naqshbandi sheikhs and the direct successor of Bahauddin Naqshband.

Life & Legacy

  • Born into a family of perfumers, hence the name Attor.

  • Studied the external sciences before dedicating himself to spiritual education under Hoja Naqshband.

  • Founded a large Sufi school in Chaghaniyan, spreading the teachings of mysticism and inner purification.

  • Passed away on the 20th of Rajab, 802 AH (1400 CE).

  • Buried on the outskirts of Denau city, where a mosque was later built near his tomb during Uzbekistan’s independence.

Spiritual Importance

  • Revered as a murid and successor to Bahauddin Naqshband.

  • His teachings emphasized inner transformation, humility, and devotion.

  • Played a crucial role in strengthening the Naqshbandi order in Central Asia.
